Mapa Topográfico Nacional de Espaňa

These maps are to the scale of 1:25,000 or 1cm = 250 metres and are produced by the Ministerio de Fomento, Instituto Geográfico Nacional. They can be purchased from some newsagents like the Word in Turre for about 3.50 euro each. But, the more popular maps like Mojacar are often difficult to come by and ordering them can be a long process. Alternatively, they can be ordered over the internet from a British company for around 4.50 pounds. The web address is www.mapsworldwide.com but allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. Take care when purchasing these maps at a newsagent because, although some areas were mapped between 2002 and 2004 others were mapped as far back 1978.
Garmin Mapsource - Metro Guide Europe V9

This map is supplied on a DVD from Garmin. It covers all of Europe with expanded coverage for Eastern Europe. It is okay for street mapping but of little use in the countryside because of the absence of contour lines and features. I have used it on a couple of walks that include streets in Mojacar, Garrucha or the Playa.

Ordering Route maps

I have the facility to scan these maps to a computer, join them when necessary and plot actual coordinates directly onto the map. After each walk that has been recorded by GPS I am able to download a "bread crumb" trail directly onto the desired area of the map. These can then be printed and laminated.
