Walk 01 - GARRUCHA to BEDAR RAILWAY.

This walk follows the old railway line from Garrucha towards Bedar and returns the same track. Very easy, flat track outward. After lunch a "loop" through the campo with a few short climbs. A beginning of season starter walk to get those muscles working again! (rev.09/2010)

Walk 02 - RIO AGUAS AND RAMBLA ESTRECHO. Could differ from the published map

Another good beginning of season leg stretch from Turre along the Rio Aguas before heading south on the Rambla Mojar onto Cortijo Grande. Lunch above Cortijo Grande with views of the sierra de Bedar. Return via Rambla Estrecho back into the Rio Aguas.

Walk 03 - HERMITAGE WALK.

An easy start along the old railway track towards Bedar before we head north across the campo. Continuing north up a rambla then a short climb we reach the 253m high "Cerro Cabezo de Maria" . We have our lunch by the hermitage at the summit before returning down the rambla to Perulaca and our cars at Los Gallardos Camping.

Walk 04 - SAN JUAN COASTAL PATH.***Not suitable for dogs

Starting at the Castillo in San Juan this walk follows the coastal path north towards Aguilas. Great views across the bay (see photos) with a lunch spot on the beach this walk makes for a lovely day out. Optional route for a stretch of coast for vertigo sufferers!

Walk 05 - ORANGE GROVE WALK.

One of the original walks introduced in 1986. After leaving Mojacar past the school we continue along a mountain track just below the Diente de La Vieja hills. We can look down on a beautiful valley with views to Turre, Bedar and beyond. At La Alcantrilla we stop and head back along asphalt roads.

Walk 06 - ANTAS RIDGE WALK (Clockwise).

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

Leaving the hermitage car park we head west along the rambla for about 6 km towards Los Raimundos reaching a height of 385 m. After lunch we follow the ridge towards Antas with great panoramic views, the coast on one side and the Jauto valley on the other. Descending the ridge we head back across farmland to the hermitage.

Walk 07 - MOJACAR PUEBLO ASCENT.

Starting at sea level on the Playa we cut across the campo before ascending the old track to Mojacar Pueblo. After a brief visit to La Fuente we continue on into the campo to our lunch spot. We then descend past Mojacar cemetery before returning through the campo to the Playa.

Walk 08 - THE ANGUS ASCENT ***Not suitable for dogs

(in memory of Angus Mackenzie who died Oct 2009)

Starting at the highest drivable point on La Parata we ascend into the campo above La Parata, eventually climbing to a height of 488 metres. Lunch overlooks the bay by Hotel Indalo. Stunning views of the Med throughout. Tough going under foot with testing ascents and descents.

Walk 09 - SERENA VALLEY & RAMBLA.

A gentle ascent out of El Pinar to the highest point on the walk before descending into the pretty Serena Valley. We pick up the old railway track before turning into the Serena rambla. After lunch we climb back up to El Pinar for a well deserved drink in the bar.

Walk 10 - SCHOOL HOUSE WALK.

A two hour ascent from sea level to the "Old School House" the highest point at 302m. After lunch we descend past the "barking dogs" and after another short climb we eventually descend near the rear of the Indalo Hotel. Great views and scenery throughout.

Walk 11 - CORTIJO GRANDE AIRDROME.

From Cortijo Grande we descend into the Rio Aguas Rambla with its running water and giant boulders. After passing the water mill we go under a bridge before ascending past the disused rifle range. After Lunch we continue the loop via the rambla Estrecho back to Cortijo Grande.

Walk 12 - FOSSIL VALLEY WALK.

Heading south from Alfaix and climbing to 190 metres into the campo. Returning down the rambla with a lunch stop at a ruined cortijo before entering fossil valley gorge. This walk is mostly track but some clambering will be required in the fossil valley.

Walk 13 - MOUNTAIN FOREST WALK. ***Not suitable for dogs

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

Heading west down the rambla towards El Gines before climbing 450 metres into the pine forest. Lunch, then descent into the rambla and return (optional endings). This walk is one of the longest and could prove strenuous to all but the most experienced walkers.

Walk 14 - BEDAR SOUTHERN LOOP

We leave Bedar on the Serena Road and after about 2.5 kilometers we drop down onto the old railway track and enter the railway tunnel before descending to La Mayaru. From here we cross the Bedar Road and ascend to the ashpalt tracks which we follow to our lunch spot. After lunch we ascend to our highest point of 480 metres before following the road back to Bedar.

Walk 15 - FOSSIL VALLEY & ORANGE GROVE.

After passing through fossil valley to the ruined cortijo we head across the campo to our lunch spot and Cortijo Grande. Descending the asphalt road into the rambla before a sharp ascent into a very large orange grove before returning through the village of Alfaix.

Walk 16 - VALLE DEL ESTE (Clockwise)

We circle Valle Del Este Golf in an clockwise direction from the south through the campo passing the turtle pond. Passing under the motorway we ascend to the trig point at 142 metres for our lunch spot. We pass back under the motorway and follow the rambla back to our cars.

Walk 17 - EL ALBERICO EL CAMPICO LOOP.

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

One of the toughest walks in the schedule with fantastic views throughout. After El Alberico we descend into the barranco before the steep climb through the ruined La Solana to a high of 670 metres for lunch. A tricky descent back into the rambla before getting our breath back for the long ascent to 704 metres from El Campico.

Walk 18 - RIO AGUAS CAMPO WALK.

Good "leg stretch" with a few short climbs starting near the Hortiflor garden centre. After a short climb we wend our way through the lowlands and orchards below the pueblo towards the cemetery. After lunch we return a different route through the orchards back to our cars.

Walk 19 - VILLARICOS MINES WALK.

Short move from Villaricos to the start of this walk before a 327 metre climb to one of the highest points in the Sierra Almagrera mountains (346m) for lunch. Many old mine ruins and shafts take you back in time and stirs one's imagination. Short walk "up and down" but with fantastic 360º views of the surrounding Panorama.

Walk 20 - SOPALMO CIRCULAR.

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

After a few kilometres along the rambla we climb to our highest point at 448m. Following the ridge we descend onto a track before another climb of 100m. We pick up the Adelfa to Sopalmo Road for our gradual descent to our cars. Lots of testing climbs, great views.

Walk 21 - MOJACAR PLAYA LA PARATA LOOP (Anti Clockwise).

After leaving the Playa we cut through the campo gradually climbing to La Parata and onwards to our lunch spot above the Indalo hotel. After descending to sea level we wend our way back through the "back streets" of the Playa back to our start point. An interesting perspective of the playa not often seen.

Walk 22 - BEDAR RAILWAY LOS ALAMOS LOOP.

Leaving La Mayaru parking area we pick up the Bedar to Garrucha railway track which we follow for about 2km. Leaving the track we wind our way NW up the rambla towards Los Alamos. A long winding climb brings us out of the valley to the hills around Bedar. We eventually descend from here and cross the Bedar road to our cars.

Walk 23 - LA GARAPALCHA VALLE DEL ESTE.

We circle Valle Del Este Golf resort in an clockwise direction from the south. Following paths & tracks through the campo we eventually reach the turtle pond and our lunch spot. We return via Valle del Este Golf resort, road, then campo back to our cars.

Walk 24 - BEDAR NORTHERN LOOP.

Leaving Bedar we cross the Bedar Road and after a short descent we ascend the ashpalt road to the high point of 496m. We head East before descending into the valley ready for another long ascent before lunch. We return to our cars through the orchards below the cemetery in Bedar.

Walk 25a- EL CAMPICO DE LAS MOLETAS (With Summit)

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

This walk follows tarmac road to El Campico de las Moleta north along the rambla for about 2 km. Then an extremely steep climb out of the rambla up a "crumbly" road to the summit of 650 metres for lunch. Steep descent, then rambla south and road return.

Walk 25b - EL CAMPICO DE LAS MOLETAS (without summit)

This walk follows tarmac road to El Campico de las Moleta north along the rambla for about 2 km. Then an extremely steep climb out of the rambla up a "crumbly" road to the lower summit of 520 metres for lunch. Steep descent, then rambla south and road return.

Walk 26 - TREASURE ISLAND (Ridge Route).

Leaving Macenas tower we have a 35 minute climb to the water tower followed by 10 - 12 "punchy" hill climbs in succession before we descend the steep scree slope into the rambla where we join the other group. We lunch on the "Treasure Island" beach before following the coast road back to the tower. Great views all around.

Walk 27 - MOJACAR PLAYA LA PARATA LOOP (Clockwise).

After leaving the Playa we wend our way through the "back streets" of the Playa before we climb the hill above the Hotel Indalo for lunch overlooking the bay. We return via the campo and La Parata. An interesting perspective of the playa not often seen.

Walk 28 - CASERIO LA LOSA TV MAST.

This walk follows the rambla from Alfaix towards El Gines. Following the path past the ruined Cortijo Caserio la Losa we ascend past the TV mast on the hill to our lunch spot. We then return by the same track before cutting across the campo. A steep climb takes us above fossil valley rambla with an equally steep path descent after.

Walk 29 - LOS MOLINAS SUNSEED PROJECT.

From the mirador car park on the Sorbas mines road we descend into the rambla "El Nacimiento" heading south towards Los Molinos. We go under the E-15 motorway and follow the rambla to the lunch spot. Returning the same way we call in at the "Sunseed Project" at Los Molinos before returning to the Mirador.

Walk 30 - KHYBER PASS WALK

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

Take the Khyber Pass Test! Will you fit? Can be a tough and tiring walk in hot weather. Terrain very rough, loose shale and rocks and often very steep. Great views of the Sierra Cabreras and Cortijo Cabrera. Only recommended for the sure footed.

Walk 31 - RAILWAY TUNNEL & TRACK TO LA SERENA.

Leaving the La Mayaru meeting point we immediately ascend the road picking up the disused railway line. We enter a 300 metre tunnel (torches recommended) which takes us into the beautiful La Serena valley. We ascend again before dropping into the rambla. Some climbing down will be encountered, lots of old railway ruins to see.

Walk 32 - LOS GALLARDOS TO BEDAR RAILWAY.

Cutting through Los Gallardos park we head across the campo to meet the old railway line near the viaduct. As we follow the track towards Bedar, many old railway building ruins can be seen. After lunch, we loop back through the campo towards the Los Gallardos camp park for an early finish. Suitable for most walkers.

Walk 33 - ANTAS RIDGE WALK (Anti Clockwise).

Leaving the hermitage car park we head north through farmland until we meet the Jauro to Antas road. We then loop around heading south west before ascending to the Antas Ridge with great panoramic views. Our return leg heads due east down the rambla back to the hermitage.

Walk 34 - MACHU PICCHU WALK.

Dropping down into the rambla below Sopalmo we head west to the Cortijo de Junta. Here we ascend a rocky ridge we refer to as "Machu Picchu". We reach an altitude of 572 metres where we have lunch. Stunning views of Carboneras. We descend by the road from Adelfa to Sopalmo.

Walk 35 - SIERRA DE BEDAR HILLS & RAMBLA.

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

This walk follows the Sorbas road east out of Alfaix, then heading north over the E-15 motorway climbing sharply into the hills. After lunch we have a long descent via a footpath into the rocky and sandy rambla below. This walk can be quite tiring due to loose boulders and sand underfoot.

Walk 36- VALLE DEL ESTE (Short version)

Short version of the full ITV centre walk. Ideal "leg stretch" for the beginning of a season. Follows the rambla Rio Antas North West under the A-7 motorway through the campo to the Valle Del Este Golf North entrance. Return across the campo to the parking area.

Walk 37 - THE MOSQUE WALK.

Leaving the car park we descend into the rambla heading west to the gorge and waterfall. The old ruined Mosque follows shortly afterwards. We ascend to our lunch spot with great views of Cortijo Cabrera and the pine forests. We return along a ridge with great views of Sierra de Bedar above Alfaix.

A sharp climb from the start to the mobile phone masts above Mojacar. After a brief rest the walk continues into the campo above La Parata, eventually climbing to a height of 488 metres. Walk 40 - CAVE PAINTINGS LA MELA WALK.

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

After a brief walk up the rambla we ascend from Los Alias and cut across the campo to La Mela. From the high point of 592m one can often see the snow peaks in the Sierra Nevada. After La Mela we follow the Rambla south towards Sorbas to see the 5000 year old cave paintings before returning. Long walk, often tricky under foot.

Walk 41 - FOSSIL VALLEY RIGHT HAND LOOP.

From Alfaix we descend into the rambla and head for “fossil valley” Heading south through the gorge surrounded by shell embedded sandstone. Leaving the rambla we head west across the campo to our lunch spot at the ruined Caserio de Losa before heading back down the rambla Antas and one final ascent back to our cars.

Walk 42 - SERENA SOUTHERN LOOP.

From Serena via the orchards we pick up the old railway track. After a short climb we descend into the Rambla. Along the way one can see evidence of the old mining activities. We lunch at a ruined cortijo before a long steep climb over rough ground of about 200 metres before meeting the Serena road which leads us back to our cars.

Walk 43 - ORANGE GROVE WALK (Anti clockwise)

After leaving Mojacar past the old football ground we head towards El Alcantarilla. Just before the orange grove we ascend a steep track to our highest point on the walk. After descending into El Alcantrilla we have a short climb to our lunch spot with views to Turre and Bedar beyond. After lunch we follow the mountain track back to Mojacar.

Walk 45 - LA ADELFA ASCENT.

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

One of the most difficult walks of the season for only the most serious of "hill" walkers. From Sopalmo (195m) we walk the rambla for about 5km before some very steep ascents to La Adelfa at 657m for lunch. Fantastic views all around. After lunch we descend by road for about 8km for a welcome drink at El Sopalmo bar.

Walk 46 - TREASURE ISLAND (Rambla Route).

Leaving Macenas tower we take the gentler rambla route passed the golf course before we joining the other group descending from the ridge route. We lunch together on the "Treasure Island" beach before following the coast road back to the tower. Great views all around.

Walk 47  - ORANGE GROVE & KHYBER PASS

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited to 20 persons

This is the orange grove walk with the Khyber pass walk bolted onto the end. Probably the most strenuous walk on the schedule. This walk is for the fittest of walkers only. Very difficult underfoot, 6.50 hours of walking and clambering with over 600 metres of cumulative ascents. Stunning views throughout

Walk 48 -  TUNNNEL & ROPE WALK ***Not suitable for dogs

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited to 20 persons

Leaving Sopalmo we descend into the rambla before entering a 500m supply tunnel. On re-appearing we descend to the beach. We then ascend to 308m via a rambla with lots of climbing and clambering. At some point we use a rope so be prepared for some tough going. This walk will be limited in numbers for safety reasons.

Walk 49 - WILD BOAR WALK.

Descending to the rambla we head north towards fossil valley. After about 6 km we leave the rambla by a track which runs parallel to the rambla. After lunch we ascend to a ridge. Eventually, we meet the road and a 2 km hill climb back to our cars. On our "pioneer" walk we spotted between 20 and 30 wild boar.

Walk 50 - LOS LOBOS MINES

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited to 20 persons

From Los Lobos we ascend into the Almegrera Mountains, through all the early 20th Century Mining activities to our lunch spot just below El Tenerife at 368m. After lunch we ascend to 364m before a very steep descent into the rambla below and return to our cars. Loose and steep ascents for the more "sure footed" of walkers.

Walk 51 - EL CHIVE CARATRIZ LOOP

From the rambla at Los Martinez (376m) we head due north to our highest point at 612 metres before the village of El Chive. After El Chive we wend our way back down the rambla stopping by an old well for lunch. A few tricky spots involving narrow paths, clambering and loose shale underfoot before a welcome drink at the local bar.

Walk 52 - ORANGE GROVE & VERAS FARM LOOP.

Registered, experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

Descending past the sports ground into orange grove valley to La Alcantarilla we then ascend by the track to our turn off to Cortijo de Cuco known as "Vera´s Farm". After lunch we follow the narrow track to the well known "Clapham Junction". From here we follow the track back to the pueblo past the crayfish pond.

Walk 53 - HOUSE ON THE RIDGE.

Experienced walkers by invitation or appointment only. Limited numbers

From La Parata at 200 metres we ascend past to over 500 metres. We then descend to "Veras Farm" before beginning the track ascent to our highest point at 674 metres for lunch at the ruined house on the ridge. After lunch we descend over 400 metres to our start point. Mostly mountain tracks, loose shale and rocky underfoot.

Walk 54 - KHYBER PASS ***Not suitable for dogs

Walk 55 - MARTINS DIP

After leaving Mojacar we continue along a mountain track. Unlike the orange grove walk we remain high continuing past the stone circle and Martins Water Deposito, where a quick dip and fancy dress was the order of the day in December 2008. We return via the road through La Alcantrilla, orange groves and back to the pueblo.

Walk 58 - GARRUCHA CEMETERY WALK

Start of the season "leg stretch" starting at Garrucha Cemetery. We pass the Golf course and the brocolli fields before wending our way through the orchards and lowlands of Mojacar Pueblo. We return to the new Football ground and before walking along the seafront in front of the Mojacar hotels and back to the cemetery.

Walk 59 - AIRFIELD & RAMBLA ESTRECHO

Another good beginning of season leg stretch. We ascend to the disused airfield above Cortijo Grande for lunch and a look around. After lunch we descend into the Rambla Estrecho and return to our cars.

Walk 60 - RODALQUILAR GOLD MINE WALK. ***Not suitable for dogs

The Walk goes around the old gold mining area of Rodalquilar and has a number of signposts describing the views and the mining operations. Some nice panoramic views inland towards Nijar. It is on good paths (however, good shoes suggested as the stones can be sharp!) and mostly flat ground except for one steep climb of about 70 metres.

Walk 61 - LOS GURULLOS

This is a "there and back" walk along the never-to-be-finished coastal road from Los Gurullos to San Jose. The walk turns back short of San Jose. No Steep climbs, good ground and beautiful coastal views.

Walk 62 - AGUA AMARGA COAST WALK

Short (8 km), medium level walk shaped like the figure 9. Mostly on good paths, striking sea views. A couple of steep climbs but they are done in short segments. Beautiful views. 3.5 hours + drive to Agua Amarga (45 minutes from Mojacar)

Walk 63 - BROCOLLI FIELDS

From the cemetery we walk through the brocolli field next to Mojacar Gofl Course. We pass under the bypass through a storm drain before entering more brocolli fields. After crossing the Garrucha to Los Gallardos road we head across the campo to our lunch spot. We ruturn to our start point by the old railway track passed the Go Karting track.

Walk 64 - ALFAIX CIRCULAR

From the bottom of the hill at Alfaix bridge we follow the road before ascending to Casera de la Losa. After a brief spell following the track we descend into the fossil valley rambla for lunch near the dried up waterfall. After lunch we return by track to our cars. This walk crosses three other walks in the same area.

Walk 65 - BARRANCO DEL TESORO

From the mirador car park on the Sorbas mines road we descend into the rambla "El Nacimiento" Before ascending to our higest point at 410 m. We descend into Barranco del Tesoro passed the deserted village & schoolhouse. We pass under the E15 motorway and lunch by the turtle pond. We return down the rambla passing Los Molinos "sunseed" before crossing the bamboo bridge and returning to our cars at the mirador.

Walk 66 - RUTA DEL AGUA DE BEDAR + LOOP

This walk takes in the picturesque SL-A 76 2.2 km 'Ruta Del Agua de Bedar' passing by Fuente Temprana, Lavaderos, La 'Basalta', Balsa los 'Chorraores', Mina 'Los Chorraores' and Balsa de Jamontar, following the old aqueducts with some lovely views of Bedar. We then walk on further making a figure of eight loop along good tracks heading up back past the cemetery to Bedar car park.

Walk 67 - HIGGINS CROSS & VERAS FARM LOOP

After leaving Mojacar we ascend steeply to the telephone masts above the pueblo. We head towards la Parata before our ascent of nearly 600 metres to "Higgins Cross" at 710 metres where we have lunch. We then head towards the house on the ridge before descending by the road to the track across to Veras farm. After one final ascent to 500 metres we then descend rapidly to Mojacar at 135 metres.

Walk 68 - CAVE PAINTINGS, LA MELA - ALTERNATIVE

After a brief walk up the rambla we ascend from Los Alias and cut across the campo to La Mela. From the high point of 592m one can often see the snow peaks in the Sierra Nevada. After La Mela we follow the Rambla south towards Sorbas to see the 5000 year old cave paintings before returning in a figure of 8 loop with a climb to 615 metres. Long walk, often tricky under foot.
